Rainy days can be productive too!

Rainy days have a way of slowing us down, and I don’t mind one bit. When the weather keeps me mostly indoors—aside from a few trips outside with the dog—I like to turn those quiet hours into something productive in the kitchen.

My wonderful neighbors shared a huge bag of fresh apples, so I spent the day peeling, coring, and slicing every last one. There is something deeply satisfying about filling the kitchen with the sweet aroma of fresh apples and knowing they’ll become homemade pies, apple butter, and applesauce the kids absolutely love.

If you have older children or grandchildren, invite them to join you. Simple kitchen tasks like peeling apples become opportunities to laugh together, share stories, and teach skills they’ll carry with them for years.

Some of the sweetest family memories aren’t made during big celebrations—they’re created on ordinary rainy afternoons, standing shoulder to shoulder around the kitchen counter.

That’s the kind of simple living I cherish—a gift from a neighbor, slowing down with the seasons, and turning it into something that nourishes both the table and the heart.
